Frequently asked questions about root extraction
Are the calculated values binding?
No – the calculator provides guidance values based on empirical data only. The actual pulling force required can vary considerably depending on root system, soil conditions and growth duration.
What does the traffic light status mean?
Green ≤ 1,650 kg: manageable with standard props. Yellow 1,650–2,500 kg: feasible with class B/D ≤ 3.5 m. Red > 3,000 kg: exceeds chain hoist capacity.
Which props do I need?
Standard props to EN 1065 support max. 2.5 t. For pulling forces above 2,500 kg, class B/D props with reinforced construction are required.
Why does soil type make such a difference?
Soil type determines how firmly the roots are anchored in the ground. Sandy soil holds roots considerably less firmly than loam or clay. Pre-soaking for several hours is the simplest way to make a difficult job manageable.
Does the calculator also work for trees?
The calculator is designed for shrubs, hedges and smaller trees up to approx. 6 m height. For mature trees with significantly larger diameter, you should consult a professional arborist.
