Certification and standards – the Bautri system explained simply

Anyone in Germany, Austria or Switzerland dealing with load lifting or personal protection cannot avoid the topic of standards and certification. At the same time, the "standards jungle" (EN 795, EN 1065, Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, PPE…) often raises questions.

This article explains clearly which standards the Bautri System meets, why that matters – and what it means in concrete terms for Bautri Work and Bautri Rescue in the daily work of SMEs, landscape gardeners, construction companies, fire brigades and THW.

1. Quick Overview: Which Standards Are Relevant for Bautri?

Three core regulatory areas interlock in the Bautri System:

Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
– governs, among other things, lifting accessories and hoists
– relevant for the function "lifting and supporting loads" (Bautri Work & Rescue).

EN 795 B & CEN/TS 16415
– standards for PPE anchor points (Personal Protective Equipment against falls)
– relevant for the function "personal protection" (Bautri Rescue only).

EN 1065
– governs the requirements for construction and formwork props
– important because the Bautri System deliberately works with standardised props.

In addition there is an independent testing partner: DEKRA. The test reports and certificates prove that Bautri meets the stated requirements.

2. Bautri Work: Certified Load-Carrying Equipment under the Machinery Directive

Bautri Work is the variant for load lifting and supporting – e.g. for:

• Tree root and root stock removal
• Repositioning stones / boulders
• Lifting machinery and structural elements in construction and industry

CE & Machinery Directive

Bautri Work is:

• DEKRA-tested and CE-certified
• specifically approved for lifting and supporting loads under Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC

In practice this means:
Bautri Work is legally classified as a load-carrying device with documented load capacity and safety factors. Companies in the DACH region can cleanly incorporate the system into their risk assessments, operating instructions and DGUV documentation.

Load Capacity & DEKRA Testing

Two prop classes to EN 1065 that were tested in the DEKRA test are described on the "Certification & Quality" page:

B40 props, 4 m height

• tested with 38 kN (≈ 3.8 t) tensile load for 3 minutes
• approved for 2.5 t permissible load (safety factor 1.5)

BD35 props, 3.5 m height

• tested with 50 kN (≈ 5.0 t) tensile load for 3 minutes
• approved for 3.3 t permissible load (safety factor 1.5)

That is why Bautri communicates a maximum load of up to 3.3 t for Work & Rescue when suitable BD props are used.

Important for practice:
The certified load capacity applies only in combination with the prop classes and lengths specified in the documentation. "Random old props" are not an option – the EN 1065 standard and the Bautri approvals must match.

3. Bautri Rescue: PPE Anchor Point to EN 795 B / CEN/TS 16415

Bautri Rescue is the variant for personal protection and rescue, e.g. for:

• Shaft rescue (fire brigade, THW, plant fire brigade)
• Height and depth rescue
• Fall protection at edges, shafts, pits

Standards for PPE Anchor Points

Bautri Rescue is:

• a rescue tripod to EN 795 B
• additionally certified to CEN/TS 16415 for anchor points with multiple persons simultaneously secured
• EU type-examined by DEKRA

The certification allows personal protection of up to 3 persons simultaneously (e.g. two emergency personnel plus one person to be rescued).

At the same time, Bautri Rescue – like Work – meets the Machinery Directive requirements for lifting loads up to 3.3 t.

This gives Bautri Rescue a dual function:

• PPE anchor point for people
• Load-carrying equipment for loads

For organisations such as fire brigades, THW, BOS and industrial facilities in the DACH region, this is a strong argument:
You get a certified rescue tripod that is additionally permitted for use as a load tripod – with clean documentation.

4. EN 1065: Why the Right Props Matter So Much

A unique feature of Bautri is the use of construction props to EN 1065. The standard specifies, among other things:

• Load capacity
• Permissible lengths
• Safety reserves

Class B

• good balance of weight, price and extension length
• approved tensile load: up to 2.5 t at system height up to 4.0 m

Class BD

• higher load capacity at slightly higher weight
• approved tensile load: up to 3.3 t at system height up to 3.5 m

For users this means:

• Those wanting to work up to 2.5 t can use correctly selected Class B props.
• Those wanting to use the maximum of 3.3 t use BD props up to 3.5 m.

The EN 1065 standard and the DEKRA testing are therefore directly linked – and explain why Bautri communicates clear limits.

5. What Do the Tests Specifically Prove?

The key tests are summarised on the "Certification & Quality" page:

a) Maximum Tensile Load Test (Loads)

• Loading of props with defined forces (38 kN / 50 kN) for several minutes
• Evaluation of deformation, stability and safety
• Derivation of permissible working load (2.5 t or 3.3 t) with safety factor 1.5

b) Personal Protection Test (PPE)

• Tests with EN-1065 Class B props, 4 m length
• Simulation of various loading situations (static and dynamic forces)
• Result: certification of Bautri Rescue for personal protection of up to 3 persons to EN 795:2012 Type B and CEN/TS 16415:2017

These tests are carried out at DEKRA as an independent testing organisation – a plus point when presenting arguments to safety officers, authorities and trade associations.

7. Typical Questions from Practice – Briefly Answered

"May I use Bautri Work to secure persons?"
No. Bautri Work is not certified as a PPE anchor point. Only Bautri Rescue is approved for personal protection.

"Must I use specific props?"
Yes. Only props that meet the specifications (EN 1065, class, length, hole pattern) and Bautri approvals are permitted. Old, bent or modified props are prohibited.

"Is CE marking alone sufficient?"
CE marking shows that the manufacturer meets the Machinery Directive requirements. Combined with DEKRA test reports and clear documentation, Bautri is particularly well positioned for audits and proof of compliance.
